Woman Rescued After Kayak Capsized On Cloquet River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A woman was rescued in Industrial Township Saturday afternoon after her kayak capsized on the Cloquet River.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, around 1:30 p.m. deputies responded to a call of a water emergency along the Cloquet River in Industrial Township.

The caller told deputies his kayaking partner had capsized and her kayak filled with water. The woman was able to get to a rock where she could stand, but the water was moving too fast for her to safely swim ashore.

While deputies were in route, the caller informed them a separate pair of kayakers was able to help the woman by emptying out her kayak.

The woman and her partner were able to get to shore safely.

As the caller was unsure of his location, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad launched boats north and south of them. Eventually officials located the kayakers and took them to the Highway 2 public access.

Officials said both kayakers denied the need for medical attention.

All were wearing life jackets.
