Washington County Warns Of Deputy-Impersonating Credit Card Scam

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A man impersonating a sheriff's deputy has been calling Washington County residents and threatening to arrest them if they don't pay fines or tickets by phone with pre-paid credit cards.

The scammer has been using a phone spoofing number that shows on caller ID as coming from the county sheriff's office records line.

He's been giving victims an out-of-state number that he says is for the IRS.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office wants residents to know that it never will call and demand payment of outstanding tickets by the phone -- especially with pre-paid credit cards.
