Wander Minnesota: TuckUnder

It looks like just another charming bungalow in south Minneapolis.

But much of the year, it doubles as an art gallery known as TuckUnder, a kind of "living art" gallery where people can use the space as a house, and where people can exhibit art.

The Main Gallery, which is—appropriately enough—tucked under the main house, is currently the home of a mixed media installation by Gregory Fitz and includes this thought-provoking mannequin-sculpture next to Vermeer prints, a piece called The Connoisseur.

What's this? A basic bathroom cabinet?

Yes and no. It's also an exhibition space called the Linky Sink, currently home to works by Terri Myers Wentzka. Her work is designed to fit this particular space, with little pieces of art tucked into jars and empty BandAid boxes, and even on a hand mirror.

But the art exhibits don't end at the house. Exit through the back, beyond Fitz's exhibit, and you'll find the Raspberry Patch and the Alley Garage.

Right now there are photos from Paul Wegner that can be both cheery, but also a little eerie, when viewed on a cold, windy evening, even by a bonfire.

In the Alley Garage, at least on occasion, is a performance art piece by Sarah Beadle, whose work explores non-native seeds and flavors that show up in Minnesota foods, and what the implications of that might be.

Seeing all that's going on behind this perfectly ordinary house front is enough of a reason to consider visiting, but it's also worth seeing the eclectic, diverse exhibits that are planned around the house's spaces as well. The show runs through November 15, with "unstructured hours" Wed-Sun., or by appointment.
