Wander Minnesota: New Attractions At The Arboretum
There are some really fun new exhibits at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum this summer, interesting for both adults and kids.
The first is David Rogers' Big Bugs, an installation of whimsical, far-larger-than-life insects created from sustainable forest materials. The ant above is 10 feet tall.
This dragonfly is beautiful, and enormous.
This Daddy Long Legs is—well—very long-legged indeed.
And a slightly terrifying assassin bug.
The Arboretum has several community builds schedules this summer (June 25, July 9 and 23, August 6 and 20) where you can bring your family between 10 a.m. and noon to create your own bug or just something huge.
Speaking of assassin bugs…
The other new display is called Savage Gardens, which is a mixture of sculptures and live plants—plants that are carnivorous. The aptly named cobra lily (above) traps its prey in its cobra-like hood.
There are also interactive stations for kids to learn hands-on about these types of plants and what they do.
But if you're not interested in either bugs or carnivorous plants, and would like a more peaceful experience, don't worry—the Arb's got you covered.
