Arson Suspected In Waite Park Apartment Fire, Suspect Sought

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities are looking for a suspect after a fire at a Waite Park apartment complex Monday appears to have been intentionally set.

Authorities say the blaze at the Sundial Apartments sent residents jumping from second and third-story apartments. Tenants were calling about the fire just after 11 a.m. Monday, and many were forced to jump and throw their children out windows to safety.

Authorities believe the fire started on the second floor of the complex, which is 2.5 stories and features 24 units. Several people had to be taken to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries.

Officials with the American Red Cross say 41 residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal and local authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Minnesota Arson Hotline at (800) 723-2020. A reward of $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
