Wagner Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Minnesota guard Carlie Wagner was named the league's Freshman of the Week.

Wagner, of New Richland, Minn., was one of the Gophers top players last week in a loss at Illinois and a home win over Michigan State. Wagner averaged 22 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals over the two games.

She scored 19 points and had two assists in the Gophers' loss at Illinois. On Sunday, Wagner scored a career-high 25 points, 21 in the second half, in an 86-79 win over the Spartans. She hit five 3-pointers in Sunday's win. Wagner also had three assists and three steals.

Wagner is third on the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game and is also second on the team with 39 made three-point field goals this season. In league play, she's averaging 14.1 points per game and has scored in double figures in each of the Gophers' last seven games.

It's her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award.
