Wadena Girl, 16, Killed In ATV Rollover Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Wadena County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 16-year-old girl died following an ATV rollover crash Monday evening.

At 6:28 p.m., the sheriff's office received a 911 call reporting the ATV accident at the intersection of Apache Avenue and Cree Street in Wadena Township. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a Polaris Ranger side by side ATV that rolled over onto the driver's side.

Sheriff Michael Carr says the ATV was traveling southbound on Apache Avenue at a speed at around 20 mph when the driver swerved towards the ditch and overcorrected, causing the ATV to roll, which ejected the two occupants.

The victim and driver, Christine Kaye Alberts of Wadena, suffered severe head trauma and was taken to the Tri County Hospital by ambulance. She later died of her injuries.

The other occupant, a 15-year-old Wadena girl, was taken to the Tri County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Carr says neither victim was wearing a seatbelt or helmet.
