Volunteers Find Missing Woman's Body
NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — Volunteers have discovered the body of a New Ulm woman who had been missing for five days.
The Mankato Free Press reports that 51-year-old Karen Schroeder left her home on foot Monday and wasn't seen again. The newspaper says the woman was reportedly dealing with unspecified health issues.
Tonia Smith of New Ulm organized a volunteer search for Schroeder. She told the newspaper that volunteers found her body in a wooded area along the Cottonwood River on Saturday afternoon.
New Ulm Police Commander Dave Borchert told The Associated Press on Sunday that an autopsy is pending. He said the earliest the autopsy could take place would be Monday because the body is so frozen. He declined to comment further on the investigation.
