Vikings Stadium Erects Itself Rapidly In Time-Lapse Video
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The Minnesota Vikings reminded us on their Facebook page that it was one year ago yesterday when the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome was deflated to make room for a new billion dollar stadium.
The Vikings posted a time-lapse video on Facebook to say, "Look at how far we have come."
The video is about two minutes long.
The new stadium is now nearly 40 percent complete.
Much of the work on the concession stands is already done, and the distinctive "A" frame at the back of the stadium is now visible.
They could start putting up the glass next month, though it will be installed without the so-called bird-safe glass.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority said that using a special glass with dots on it would take away from the design.
Bird supporters say the stadium threatens migration patterns and the birds could crash into the glass.
The Stadium Authority is still working with 3M to come up with a product to apply to the glass that could prevent that from happening.
The stadium should be done by July 2016.
So the Vikings will play one more season outside in TCF Bank Stadium.
