Vikings Sign Veteran Safety Michael Griffin

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings announced the signing of veteran safety Michael Griffin Monday.

The 31-year-old two-time Pro Bowler joins the team after spending the last nine seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans.

Griffin was picked 19th overall by the Titans in the 2007 NFL Draft. He's played 141 career games with 133 starts, recording 912 tackles, 25 interceptions, 65 passes defended, 7 sacks and 21 tackles for a loss.

Griffin will reunite with Vikings' defensive backs coach Jerry Gray, who was the Titans' defensive coordinator from 2011 to 2013.

The move is expected to generate more competition in the safety position opposite of veteran Harrison Smith.
