Vikings' Sherels Named NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels was named the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week Wednesday after returning a punt for a touchdown in the team's 23-20 win at Chicago on Sunday.

Sherels' 65-yard punt return for a touchdown was the third of his career. That's the most in franchise history. It's also the fifth punt return of more than 50 yards for Sherels, a franchise record, and his 10.6 yards per punt return is a team-best.

Sherels finished Sunday's win with 77 punt return yards on three returns, a 25.7 yard average. He also made two tackles on special teams.

Since Mike Priefer became the Vikings' special teams coach in 2011, Minnesota has nine special teams touchdowns. That's tied for the most in the NFL, and the Vikings have had seven special teams players of the week.
