Vikings' Newman Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the second week in a row, a Minnesota Vikings player has been named the NFC defensive player of the week.
Vikings cornerback Terence Newman was honored for his performance in the Vikings' 30-14 win over the Oakland Raiders last weekend.
He intercepted in the first and fourth quarters, making him one of only two cornerbacks 37 or older to snatch two in a single game. One play after his fourth quarter interception, Adrian Peterson ran for an 80-yard touchdown to seal the victory.
Newman earned the title once before, back in 2003 during his rookie season.
Last week, defensive tackle Linval Joseph was named the NFC defensive player of the week. The week before, Marcus Sherels was named the conference's special teams player of the week.
