Vikings Installing 'Portable Lactation Pods' For Nursing Moms

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Nursing mothers are about to become more comfortable at Minnesota Vikings games.

The team announced Tuesday it will be installing "portable lactation pods" at TCF Bank Stadium, at US Bank Stadium and at the Vikings' two corporate headquarters and its Winter Park training facility.

The 32 square-foot pods, made by Mamava, are equipped with benches, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump and a lockable door.

Two pods are expected to be installed at TCF Bank Stadium in time for the Oct. 18 Vikings-Chiefs game.

"While we certainly encourage breastfeeding mothers to nurse where they feel comfortable, we have become increasingly aware of the need many moms have for the privacy and comfort that these Mamava lactation suites provide," the Vikings' COO Kevin Warren said.

The Vikings are the first NFL franchise to install Mamava pods in an NFL stadium.

WCCO recently aired a story about nursing rooms at various Twin Cities, which experts have deemed insufficient and uncomfortable for mothers.
