Eagan City Council Approves Vikings Facility; Construction To Begin Soon

EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Vikings Headquarters is moving.

In a vote Tuesday evening, the Eagan City Council approved the Vikings plan to move the team headquarters and training facility to the old Delta Airlines corporate headquarters. The Vikings bought the land last August.

"We will start moving dirt here yet probably in the next 30 days." Lester Bagley, Vice President of Public Affairs for organization, said.

The council had to change the land-use designation to mixed use so the team can create a development on nearly 200 acres of land that includes housing, retail, office space, a hotel and public green space.

"This property is down there is just a beautiful piece of property an undeveloped sight that has a great potential to create something special." he said.

The new facility will include the team headquarters, indoor practice facility, outdoor practice fields and expandable outdoor stadium. A ceremonial groundbreaking will be held later this summer.

The team hopes to move into the new facility in Spring of 2018.
