Vikings DC Edwards Arrested For DWI In May
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The leader of the Minnesota Vikings defense found some trouble with the law back in May, according to court documents.
Court documents show Vikings Defensive Coordinator George Edwards was arrested for fourth-degree DWI in Carver County back in May. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor careless driving in the incident on Aug. 29 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, more than $1,000 in fines and a year of probation.
The jail sentenced was stayed for a year so it can be avoided if Edwards doesn't violate the terms of probation. The Vikings released a statement Tuesday, saying Edwards immediately notified the team of the situation when it occurred. He was significantly disciplined by the Vikings and he fulfilled both his legal obligations as well as additional team-imposed discipline.
The Vikings have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and it's one of the main reasons they've gotten off to a 5-0 start.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer cut a practice squad player on Tuesday that got arrested during the team's bye week for DWI. Isame Faciane was released, and they signed Tre Roberson to take his place.
