Valleyfair Unveils New (And Old) Attractions

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Shakopee, Minn. amusement park Valleyfair is adding a new ride this year called Northern Lights.

The ride is aimed at families, so it's not among the park's faster, wilder rides. Instead, it reaches a top speed of 43 miles per hour.

An animation shows a car holding passengers slowly spinning as it moves down and up the 300-feet track.

The ride is part of a new area located by the Steel Venom ride called Route 76, which goes back to ValleyFair's beginnings.

It has three classic rides that made their debut in 1976 when the park opened -- Antique Autos, Tilt-a-Whirl, and the Scrambler.

As the park says, it's a good way for parents to share childhood memories with a new generation.

ValleyFair opens for the season Friday, May 16.
