Valleyfair Finishing Up Waterpark Expansion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Thrill-seekers will find two, new 90-foot speed waterslides at Valleyfair this spring after the Shakopee amusement park finishes up construction on a Soak City Waterpark expansion.

Valleyfair officials say the two new speed slides will be part of an area called Breakers Pipeline and Breakers Plunge.

Riders of the Breakers Plunge slides will be placed in a capsule and the floor will fall out from under them, sending them virtually straight down a 90-foot vertical drop.

The Breakers Pipeline rides will also feature the capsule drop system, but they'll be 65-foot-tall tube slides, with twists and turns.

Construction on the slides is expected to be finished by late May, officials say.

For those seeking a more relaxing aquatic experience, the new expansion will also include a family-friendly splash pad called Barefoot Beach. The splash pad is about an acre in size, and it has small slides, water cannons and geysers that stream up from the ground.

Construction for the expansion project began last fall.
