US House OKs Bill To Name Post Office For Officer

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. House has approved a bill to rename the Cold Spring post office in honor of slain police officer Tom Decker.

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann led the effort. Bachmann says renaming Decker's hometown post office the "Officer Tommy Decker Memorial Post Office" would be "a fitting tribute to a life well lived and a man greatly missed."

The bill was co-sponsored by the other seven members of Minnesota's House delegation. It passed the House on a unanimous voice vote Tuesday and now goes to the U.S. Senate.

Decker was killed on duty while responding to call in November 2012. No one has been charged with the crime. A man whom police were prepared to arrest for the killing committed suicide during a standoff with authorities in January 2013.
