Minneapolis man has bullet lodged in leg after 4 shot in Lyn-Lake

LynLake shooting leaves man with bullet stuck in his leg

MINNEAPOLIS —A Minneapolis man is out of the hospital tonight, but with a bullet still in his leg, after being shot in a neighborhood well-known for its nightlife.

Police said a total of four people were shot Friday night near Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue in the Lyn-Lake neighborhood.

"Still a little shaken up," said one witness, who didn't want to be identified for safety reasons.

Minneapolis police said the shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. Friday, the same time popular bars and restaurants in Lyn-Lake start filling with customers.

"I heard these loud pops, didn't really register what was going on at first, but then immediately realized something is wrong," the witness said.

The witness said she was walking down Lyndale with a friend, when she heard the shots and ducked for cover.

"The shots sounded like they were blocks away," Droo Gibbs said.

Gibbs soon realized one of the shots went right into his leg, where it is still lodged.

"I just heard shots happen and then all of a sudden I was like 'oh somebody kicked me in the leg' and then there was blood going all over the place," Gibbs said.

"I heard eventually three other people were shot. I just saw the one that got shot in his leg," said the witness.

Gibbs said employees at Fool Me Once put a tourniquet on his leg and helped him into an ambulance.

He returned to the shooting scene today to show thanks, in a neighborhood he frequents.

"I had to come and get breakfast pizza, show the folks I care for that care for me out here, that I'm fine, everything's fine," Gibbs said.

Gibbs talked about how he's doing now.

"I mean fine, a little bit heavier in my left leg I guess, but it is what it is," he said.

And said he has no idea why he ended up in the line of fire.

"I have no reason to be a target for anybody," Gibbs said. "Everybody just needs to calm down a bit. I don't know what's going on."

Minneapolis police tell WCCO all four victims are expected to survive. No arrests have been made.
