University To Give Scholarship To Oil Patch Workers

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota University System is giving out its first scholarship for a new program meant to help people in the oil patch further their educations.

Bakken U is tailored to help oilfield workers earn a degree or certificate from one of five colleges and universities in western North Dakota with energy-related and high-tech degree programs.

The $5,000 scholarship is open to recently displaced oil workers, current oil workers, or spouses of oil workers who wish to expand their knowledge and job marketability in North Dakota.

The winner was selected based on a review from a scholarship committee.

A news conference is scheduled Tuesday to announce the recipient, who is currently enrolled at Dickinson State University.
