Union Pacific Train Derails Along St. Croix River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Several cars of a Union Pacific train derailed along the St. Croix River early Tuesday morning.

According to the Union Pacific Railroad, around 2 a.m. seven empty cars derailed near Bayport following reports of debris on the track.

There were no injuries to the crew or public.

No hazardous materials were involved.

Union Pacific representatives said the train was headed from Altoona, Wis. to St. Paul and was carrying mixed freight.

Crews are currently working to remove the cars. The railway hopes to reopen the track Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
