Underwriter: New MNsure Rates Could Bring 'Sticker Shock'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This week, the Minnesota Commerce Department is getting set to release a snapshot of the 2015 MNsure rates for individual policy holders.

With PreferredOne severing ties with MNsure, Dave Racer of the National Association of Health Underwriters says the new rates may come with some sticker shock.

According to Racer, the director of the council on health plans had recently predicted an average of a 12 percent increase across the board, but Blue Cross is predicting a jump of 17 percent.

The four remaining health care providers are not giving any projections for the new rates.

Official rates won't be announced until Oct. 1. Minnesotans who get government subsidized health care won't know their rates until Nov. 15.
