U.S. Fish And Wildlife Seek 'Citizen Scientists' To Gather Mayfly Data

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you don't like bugs this job is not for you.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials are recruiting "citizen scientists" to gather data on mayflies.

They hope the information will help them better predict when the insects will swarm the banks of the Mississippi River.

A website and smartphone app have been developed to allow volunteers to gather and submit field observations.

Mayflies typically hatch right around the end of June.

For more information on how to become a "citizen scientist" visit the U.S. Fish and Wildlife online.
