U.S. District Court Hosts Freedom Riders Exhibit

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A traveling exhibit that takes a look at a specific chapter of the civil rights movement is spending two weeks in Minnesota.

The Freedom Riders exhibit focuses on six months in 1961 when more than 400 Americans challenged segregation by riding buses through the South in integrated groups. It includes photography and news coverage of the rides, and examines the movement through many perspectives.

The exhibit is on display from Thursday through June 20 at the U.S. District Courthouse in Minneapolis. It officially opens at 4 p.m. Friday with a reception, featuring keynote speaker U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison.

Minnesota Freedom Riders will also be at the reception, providing firsthand accounts of their participation.

U.S. District Judge Michael Davis says the riders faced grave danger, and changed the face of America.
