U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Completed Way Ahead Of Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Construction on U.S. Bank Stadium is basically complete.

Stadium officials and the Vikings announced Friday that the downtown stadium is substantially complete, six weeks ahead of schedule. The stadium was originally slated to be finished on July 29.

During a Friday morning meeting, contractor Mortenson Construction turned over the keys to the stadium to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority and Vikings.

"Mortenson Construction has done a phenomenal job keeping us ahead of schedule while building the most amazing stadium in the United States," said Michele Kelm-Helgen, the chair of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, in a statement.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for July 22. That weekend, the stadium will also be introduced to the public through free open house events.

The first game to be played in the stadium will be a soccer match, featuring AC Milan v. Chelsea F.C. on Aug. 3.

The Vikings will take the field for their home opener on Sept. 18 against the Green Bay Packers.

The $1.1 billion stadium boasts seating for 70,000 and the closest seats to the field in the NFL.

Super Bowl LII will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium in 2018.
