'U' Issues Crime Alert After Violent Robbery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota has issued a crime alert after someone was assaulted and robbed by three men near the West Bank campus Thursday night.

According to University officials, someone not affiliated with the U of M was walking near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and 20th Avenue South at about 8:30 p.m. when three men approached the victim from behind.

One of the men punched the victim, and then stole their wallet and iPhone. The victim says one of the men was armed with a black, semi-automatic handgun and another had a knife. The men did not speak during the assault.

The suspects are described as black men in their early-to-mid 20s who range in height from 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches. One had a muscular build, while the other suspects are described as thin. They all wore dark clothing.
