'U' Dance Team Takes 2 Division 1A Titles At Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota were named Division 1A winners in two separate categories at the College Cheer and Dance Team National Championships over the weekend.

The 'U' dance team was named tops in both the jazz and pom categories. According to the event's organizers, the teams were all judged on "choreography, technique, execution and overall effect."

The championships were held in Orlando, Fla. from Jan. 17-19.

Other winners in Division 1A included the University of Cincinnati in the hip-hop category, the University of Kentucky for co-ed cheer team, and Indiana University for the best all-girl cheer team. Also, Auburn University's "Aubie" was named the best-performing mascot.

The University of Minnesota was the only Division 1A team to earn more than one first-place citation.
