Twins Trade OF Aaron Hicks To Yankees For C John Ryan Murphy

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday they've traded outfielder Aaron Hicks to the New York Yankees for catcher John Ryan Murphy.

Hicks started the season in center field for the Twins before moving around after they called up Byron Buxton to play center. He also played in center while Buxton was out with an injured wrist. Hicks finished the year hitting .256 in 97 games with 11 homers, 11 doubles and 33 RBI. He also drew 33 walks and stole 13 bases.

Murphy, 24, spent all of last season with the Yankees and hit .277 with nine doubles, one triple, three homers, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored in 67 games. One of those home runs was a three-run shot against the Twins last season.

Murphy will compete with Kurt Suzuki for the starting catcher job next year. Suzuki had a rough 2015 offensively, hitting just .240 with five homers, 35 doubles and 50 RBI.
