Twins Summon Another Top Prospect, Right-Hander Alex Meyer

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have promoted another one of their top prospects, right-handed pitcher Alex Meyer.

The Twins announced they will recall Meyer from Triple-A Rochester prior to Friday's game at Milwaukee. Meyer will replace Michael Tonkin, who was sent down Wednesday, in the bullpen.

The 25-year-old Meyer was acquired by the Twins before the 2013 season in the trade that sent center fielder Denard Span to Washington.

Meyer, a first-round draft pick by the Nationals in 2011, struggled as a starter for Rochester and was converted to a reliever a month ago. The 6-foot-9 Meyer has a 0.53 ERA in nine appearances out of the bullpen, with six walks and 20 strikeouts in 17 innings. The Twins have said moving Meyer to relief isn't permanent.
