Twins Select Contract Of RHP Alex Wimmers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Twins have called up a former first-round pitcher from Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins drafted 27-year-old Alex Wimmers 21st overall in the 2010 draft out of Ohio State University. The right-handed pitcher has gone 2-2 with 4.04 ERA in 44 games between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season. He had 24 walks, 55 strikeouts and 11 saves.

Wimmers has spent seven years in the Twins minor league system, posting an 18-14 record with a 4.25 ERA, 134 walks and 336 strikeouts in 130 games.

Wimmers will make his debut Friday night as the Twins take on the Blue Jays in Toronto at 6:07 p.m.
