Twins Release P Kevin Jepsen

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins announced Monday they've released relief pitcher Kevin Jepsen.

Jepsen was designated for assignment or outright release on July 3. In 33 games, Jepsen was 2-5 with seven saves in 11 opportunities and 6.16 earned run average.

In 30 2/3 innings, Jepsen allowed 21 earned runs with 22 strikeouts, 12 walks and seven home runs. Jepsen was typically a set-up reliever for the Twins but filled in as the closer when Glen Perkins went down with a shoulder injury.

The Twins traded for Jepsen just before the non-waiver deadline last year. Jepsen is now a free agent.
