Twins Pitching Coach Neil Allen Arrested For DWI
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins are on the west coast facing the Mariners and Athletics over the Memorial Day weekend, but one of their coaches spent Thursday morning in a jail cell.
According to the Hennepin County Jail roster, Neil Allen, 58, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of DWI. He was taken into custody at 3:48 a.m. Thursday and released at 10:32 a.m. Allen is the Twins' pitching coach.
According to the incident report from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Allen was stopped just before 2 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of 6th Street and Park Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. He was arrested for third-degree DWI after refusing a breath test.
The Twins announced Thursday that Allen has suspended, with pay, indefinitely. The Twins named Eric Rasmussen the interim pitching coach. He's been the minor league pitching coordinator for eight seasons.
The Twins had an off day Thursday before traveling to the west coast. They are 12-34 on the season.
