Twins' Perkins Adjusts Training In Hopes Of Avoiding Late-Season Injuries

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins All-Star closer Glen Perkins has seen each of the last two seasons short-circuited in the second half by injuries to his neck and back.

So Perkins went into the offseason looking to attack his preparation a little differently in hopes of helping his body endure the season's grind. Perkins says he really won't know if the adjustments work until sometime in July, when he can tell exactly how his body is responding to the work load.

The left-hander says he worked with a specialist this offseason to try to strengthen his core.

He says he is still bothered by how last season went. The left-hander says if he would have been able to stay healthy all year long, he believes the Twins would have made the playoffs.
