Twins Outfielder Torii Hunter Retires After 19 Seasons
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- After 19 seasons in the big leagues, one of the all-time favorite players in the Minnesota Twins organization is calling it a career.
Twins officials confirmed Monday night that outfielder Torii Hunter, who will turn 41 next July, has decided to retire.
Hunter spent 12 of his 19 years in major league baseball with the Twins. Hunter, playing in right field and some as designated hitter this season, helped lead the Twins to an 83-79 record in 2015 after four straight seasons with at least 90 losses.
Hunter hit .240 this year in 139 games with 22 home runs, 125 hits and 81 RBI.
But his leadership with the Twins this year went much farther than any statistic. He brought the Twins clubhouse back together and made baseball fun to play again. He orchestrated team dance parties in the clubhouse after every win, and his personality made him a fan favorite on the team.
Hunter was a five-time All-Star selection and won nine Gold Glove awards in the outfield.
