Twins Cities Youth Sleep Outside To Raise Awareness Of Homelessness

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As the cold weather comes in, many families don't have a warm place to sleep.

That's why hundreds of teenagers are sleeping outside Friday morning to raise awareness about homelessness.

It's called the Cardboard Box City, and it takes place at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

The evening begins at 4 p.m. Thursday when kids can come set up their tents and boxes. From 5 to 8 p.m. kids have a soup kitchen supper, followed by entertainment by Sheltered Reality.

By 8 a.m. Friday, the kids are on their way.

Last year, over 400 youth and youth leaders gathered at Baldwin Park on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and were able to raise nearly $20,000 to help Project Home and Families Moving Forward.
