Twin Cities Sets New Record For Bike Sharing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Officials say a new 24-hour record for bike sharing was set in the Twin Cities on Saturday with more than 5,600 Nice Ride bikes being used.

In the process, The Minneapolis Foundation also raised money to provide bikes to kids in need. Officials said cyclists put together 5,613 trips with Nice Ride Minnesota. It's the most that's ever been recorded in a 24-hour period.

The event was put on in coordination with The Minneapolis Foundation's 100th anniversary. For every trip taken with a Nice Ride bike Saturday, $1 was donated to Free Bikes 4 Kidz. The Minneapolis Foundation also made a grant to Nice Ride.

Saturday's record broke the previous mark of 4,486 trips, set on July 26, 2014.
