Maple Lake Camp Opens Wheelchair Challenge Course

MAPLE LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Minnesota organization is giving kids and adults with disabilities a chance to experience camp in a way they couldn't before.

True Friends Camp Courage in Maple Lake celebrated the opening of their new challenge course on Sunday. It's entirely wheelchair accessible and includes a giant swing, zip line and a ropes circuit.

The custom-designed course took about five months to build and has harnesses to keep campers safe.

"It gets me completely out of my comfort zone and I feel completely free and not so confined sometimes like I do on a daily basis," Camper Amy Sharp said.

Camp Courage says the course helps campers realize what they're capable of. True Friends is a non-profit organization that provides life-changing experiences to children and adults with disabilities.
