Truck Reported Missing 16 Years Ago Found In Benton Co. Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in Benton County say they've found a pickup truck that was reported missing nearly 16 years ago.

The county sheriff's department said it received a call Sunday afternoon from anglers on Mayhew Lake who said they saw what appeared to be a pickup truck with an underwater camera.

Later that day, officials confirmed the truck's presence in the lake, about 100 yards north of the public access point and 25 yards off the west shore. It was submerged in about 12 feet of water.

On Monday, divers searched the truck and the area around it. Nothing of value was found.

Officials ran the license plate and found it was for a truck reported missing in March of 2000 from an address in Graham Township, which is just a couple miles north of Mayhew Lake.

Efforts to get the truck out of the lake were unsuccessful due to thin ice. However, officials said they'll look to remove the truck in the near future.
