Trial For Mpls. Police Officer Accused In Bar Assaults Begins Monday

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The trial begins Monday for a Minneapolis police officer accused of assaulting at least four people in two separate bar fights.

The federal indictment says Officer Michael Griffin also filed false paperwork and lied at trial.

According to court documents, Griffin was off duty when he started fights at the downtown bars.

The City of Minneapolis has paid more than $400,000 in civil lawsuits over the incidents.

Griffin has been the subject of 22 internal affairs investigations -- most of them were dismissed.
