Tour Of Miami City Ballet Comes To U Of M

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Miami City Ballet is going on tour before opening its 30th anniversary season at home.

The Miami Beach-based company will give three performances at the Chicago Dancing Festival, including an Aug. 29 performance of Twyla Tharp's "Sweet Fields" in Millennium Park.

The troupe also will open the New York City Center's Fall for Dance festival on Sept. 30.

The 51-dancer company opens its season Oct. 23 in Miami. This year's schedule includes works by Tharp, Liam Scarlett, Justin Peck and Paul Taylor, as well as a production of George Balanchine's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" that has been reimagined by two artists with Miami roots.

The company will continue its tour in April with performances at the University of Minnesota and at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Chicago.
