Top Dogs: St. Paul Police K-9 Unit Wins National Competition

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The St. Paul Police K-9 unit is being honored for having some of the top dogs in the country.

They competed in several competitions in the United States Police K-9 Association's national field dog trials in Illinois. The dogs won the "Top Department Team" trophy.

The win hits close to home for the team, as the award is named after Tim Jones, a St. Paul officer who was shot to death in 1994.

K-9 officers can do several jobs for the department, taking on duties that can be dangerous for a human officer to do.
