'Tire Rack Street Survival' Teaches Teens Safe Driving

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. (WCCO) - Car crashes are a leading cause of death for teenagers across the country, which is why one group is working to help keep them alive behind the wheel.

The Tire Rack Street Survival program was held Saturday at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount.

The program was created to improve driver competence through hands-on experience. Students learn how to manage driving hazards, obstacles and challenges on an advanced driving course.

Skills like emergency braking and skid control are also taught to prevent accidents.

In 2013, more than 100 schools took part in the training. Tie Rack hopes to train students from 110 schools in 2014.
