Time Names Jucy Lucy One Of The Most Influential Burgers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- When it comes to the most influential burgers of all time -- and no, not the most delicious, not even the most inventive, but the patty with the biggest impact -- Time Magazine believes one spot should go to Minnesota's own Jucy Lucy.

The magazine interviewed a handful of burger experts and burger historians (if that's a thing?) to narrow the list down to just 17 selections.

Of those 17, Minnesota's Jucy Lucy (notice the spelling) was chosen as No. 10.

"It gained national attention in 2008, thanks to a feud between two Minneapolis bars that both claim to have 'invented' it," the story states. "Since then, there have been numerous imitators, proving that a little innovation and a dash of hype is all it takes to reinvigorate enthusiasm for a classic."

The story gives a shout-out to Matt's Bar, who put the Jucy Lucy, a somewhat simple cheeseburger where the cheese is melted inside two patties instead of on top, on its menu in 1954.

Other notable burgers to make the list? The Krusty Burger (No. 17), the Burger King Whopper (No. 5), McDonald's burger (No. 2) and the No. 1 most influential burger of all time? The White Castle Slider, of course.
