Timberwolves Sign Euroleague MVP Nemanja Bjelica

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Tuesday they've signed forward Nemanja Bjelica, the reigning MVP of the Euroleague.

The Timberwolves originally acquired Bjelica on a draft day trade with the Washington Wizards in 2010, selecting him 35th overall. Bjelica is a 6 foot, 10 inch forward who averaged 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in 63 games last year between the Euroleague and the Turkish Basketball League.

He was named the Euroleague's MVP for his play with Fenerbahce Ulker in Turkey. Bjelica, 27, shot 54 percent from the field last year, including 37.4 percent from three-point range.

He also played for the Serbian National Team, winning silver medals in the 2014 World Championships and the 2009 European Championship. Bjelica will wear No. 88 for the Timberwolves.

He will be introduced with the Timberwolves at a news conference at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mayo Clinic Square.
