Thursday's Morning Commute To Be Cold, Snowy

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Wednesday was the coldest day of the winter so far, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation is doing what it can to make sure Thursday's commute isn't a mess.

The Twin Cities did not get above zero Wednesday, and with the overnight low expected to be around minus 10 with wind chills around minus 25, it'll be another cold morning in the metro. Light snow is also expected to fall early in the morning, which could make for a slick commute.

WCCO-TV Meteorologist Matt Brickman says about an inch of snow is expected around the Twin Cities between 5 a.m. and about 11 a.m., so motorist will want to take it slow as they head out the door Thursday morning.

MnDOT officials say they'll have crews out to keep the roads clear with the anticipated snow. They will still put salt down, even though it doesn't work as effectively in the extreme cold. Wednesday's sun should also help get some ice off the roads.

Regardless, motorists are encouraged to take it slow on the roads Thursday and give themselves extra time to get to the office.
