Crews were called to the fire just after 9:30 a.m. at a building near Sherburne Avenue and Rice Street. When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire on the second floor.

Firefighters and police were able to evacuate seven residents.

An officer and a man were transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation, and another officer later drove themselves to the hospital for evaluation.

About 70 firefighters responded to the scene from several agencies, officials say. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
