At Least Three Buildings Destroyed In North Mpls. Fire
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis firefighters spent hours Saturday night battling a fire that caused severe damage to several buildings on the city's north side.
The Minneapolis Fire Department says crews responded to the fire on the corner of Fremont and Lowry avenues just before 10 p.m. When they got to the scene, they found the fire had started in the basement of a business, and spread to others.
The department said crews tried and were successful in keeping the fire contained. Yet, the buildings that did catch fire sustained severe damage, including wall and roof collapses. At least three buildings were "a total loss," the department said.
Of the businesses affected, one was a cell phone shop, another was a braid shop.
No one was in the buildings when crews got to the scene, and no firefighters suffered injuries while battling the flames.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown, the department said.
