Thousands Salute Officer Patrick As He Was Laid To Rest

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The procession for Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick ended Wednesday at Acacia Park Cemetery.

That's where Patrick, who was fatally shot in West St. Paul a week ago, was laid to rest.

The procession accompanying Patrick took nearly an hour winding through the streets he patrolled for nearly 20 years. Patriot Guard members lined the grass, holding flags as the hearse entered the cemetery.

A bell tolled 272 times, in memory of all the Minnesota officer lost in the line of duty.

Now, it will ring once more.

The casket carrying Patrick into the cemetery was draped in an American flag. Not far behind, a car was carrying his wife and two teenage daughters.

The girls – one of whom made the shape of a heart with her fingers – showed their appreciation for the community's support.

Hundreds had lined the streets to watch the procession and pay their respects, and thousands of law enforcement officers gave Patrick a final salute.

Acacia Park Cemetery is a family cemetery. Patrick's family wanted him to rest in the town he loved to serve.
