Thousands of Minnesotans still without power after Thursday's severe weather

Power outages mounting as severe storms move through Minnesota

More than 5,000 Xcel customers are still dealing with power outages after severe weather moved through Minnesota and Wisconsin on Thursday.

As of 6 a.m. Friday, Xcel Energy reports 5,275 customers in southeastern Minnesota — including parts of the Twin Cities — and western Wisconsin are without power from 423 outages. That's down from nearly 19,000 customers on late Thursday evening.

Anyone who sees a downed power line or debris on one should keep their distance from it and contact the police.

Friday will be a much calmer day in the Twin Cities, with scattered showers, below-average highs and plenty of wind.
