Thief Maces Man, 61, At Andover ATM

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police are looking for someone who sprayed a 61-year-old man who was using an ATM in Andover, Minnesota.

The assault happened on Saturday afternoon at a U.S. Bank on Bunker Lane Boulevard. The man was inside the vestibule at the bank's entrance.

A male described as being in either his late teens or early 20s with a medium build came into the vestibule and demanded the first man's money.

Police said the man fought the attacker, but was sprayed heavily in the face with Mace or a very similar chemical irritant.

The attacker fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police said the person they're looking for was wearing a blue Nike hoodie, and was seen on either a bicycle or skateboard at a nearby strip mall.

"I am confident that this robbery suspect will be caught and that justice will be served.  His actions can serve as a reminder to us all to remain aware of our surroundings and to have a plan for even the most unusual circumstances," Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff's office at (763) 427-1212.
